The Material — Real Stone, Real Strength

Casa Vietri tables are built from volcanic lava stone — a solid, natural rock formed from the cooling and solidification of molten magma erupted from Mount Etna. This is not a manufactured composite or surface tile; it’s geological material with inherent structural integrity and history.

Lava stone has physical characteristics that make it ideal for durable furniture, including:

  • High weather resistance: superior performance against rain, frost, sun and salt compared with marble or ceramic alternatives.
  • Density and strength: capable of carrying structural loads without cracking or deforming.
  • Non-porous, easy to clean: a hygienic surface that doesn’t trap moisture or bacteria.
  • Heat tolerance: inherent ability to handle high temperatures without damage.

This is why truly volcanic stone has been used in construction, paving, and crafted works for centuries — a material proven by time.

The stone is only the starting point.

What differentiates tables from the Vietri region is not the quarry — it’s the ceramic culture layered onto the stone.

02

A Different Design Language

Once selected and cut to your custom dimensions, each lava stone top is refined and finished by artisans.

Vietri sul Mare, on the Amalfi Coast, has been a ceramic centre since the 15th century.

Artisans here grow up surrounded by colour, pattern and Mediterranean light. Many workshops are family-run, with techniques passed down over generations. The visual language isn’t copied from catalogues — it’s inherited.

That heritage shows in the work.

Vietri artisans approach lava stone like a canvas. Their style is recognisable:

  • Fluid, expressive brushwork
  • Saturated Mediterranean colour palettes
  • Narrative compositions rather than flat patterns
  • Organic asymmetry that gives the piece movement

You’ll see lemons that feel sunlit, florals that feel alive, marine motifs that feel coastal — not generic.

The influence comes directly from the Amalfi Coast — its architecture, sea, produce and light.

Vietri artisans work freehand. There are no digital transfers. No vinyl masks. Each motif is drawn and painted directly onto the stone before firing. Brush pressure varies. Lines breathe. Colour density shifts slightly across the surface.

Two tables with the same design will never be clones.

Lava stone comes from Mount Etna. But its artistic soul comes from Vietri.

03

High-Temperature Kiln Firing

Each tabletop undergoes high-temperature kiln firing, where ceramic glazes vitrify and chemically bond with the volcanic substrate. This process fuses the finish directly into the lava stone rather than sitting on top of it, creating a permanent, UV-stable and weather-resistant surface.

The result is a material that maintains its colour depth and surface integrity indoors and outdoors — without peeling, chalking or surface degradation. Performance is engineered through heat and material science, not superficial coating.

04

The Frame — Engineered for Life

Our bases are hand-forged wrought iron, engineered to support the true mass of stone without compromise. Unlike lightweight framed furniture or particle-based tops, Casa Vietri frames are built for the long haul:

  • Welded structural joints.
  • Balanced proportions calibrated for real world loads.
  • Protective coatings to resist environmental corrosion.

No flimsy legs, no shortcuts.

Outdoor furniture often cuts corners on durability to chase price or trends. Casa Vietri doesn’t. Solid volcanic stone, kiln-fired ceramic finishes and forged metalwork — engineered with intent — deliver tables that perform as well as they look, and outlast the standard market offering.

Built for Use — Not Just Looks

Real materials perform — especially when they’re honest. Lava stone’s combination of density, resistance to abrasion, and low maintenance means tables that:

  • Live outside year-round without fading or flaking.
  • Host daily meals, gatherings and life without fragile finishes.
  • Stay fundamentally solid rather than delaminating or deteriorating over time.

This is furniture designed around actual material behaviour rather than stylistic compromise.

Made for You — Purposeful Production

Each Casa Vietri table is made to order in Italy. You choose shape, size and finish. We begin the craft with intention — not with stock in a warehouse.

From Etna’s geology to kiln-fired surface, and through hand-forged metalwork, every table embodies material authenticity and craft discipline.
