Spirale di Mare
Spirale di Mare captures motion. A school of slender Mediterranean fish turns inward, forming a tightening spiral against a saturated cobalt field. The composition pulls the eye from the rim to the centre in one continuous movement.
The background is layered in tonal blues, brushed by hand to create depth and variation rather than a flat block of colour. Over this, each fish is individually painted in cool aqua and silver tones, detailed with fine linework and subtle highlights.
In contrast to heavily ornamental baroque patterns, this design is minimalist and directional. There is no border and no framing. The energy comes from repetition and flow.
Hand-painted on solid Mount Etna lava stone and kiln-fired at high temperature, the glaze bonds permanently to the volcanic surface. The finish is UV-stable, heat resistant and suited to harsh Australian outdoor exposure.
Contemporary and ocean-driven. This piece works exceptionally well in coastal settings or modern architectural spaces that favour bold colour and clean composition.
